HOUSTON, Texas – A female driver has died in a fatal crash after attempting to flee an officer.
At approximately 1 a.m. an HPD sergeant began pursuit of a vehicle that ran a red light at Parker and interstate 45.
The officer got behind the vehicle and the driver began to accelerate to evade the officer.
The chase ended on the 600 block of Sunnyside st. near the Grace of God Church.
“Roughly a minute and a half into the chase that suspect lost control of the vehicle and ran directly into a brick wall”, said HPD Chief Sheryl Victorian.
The sergeant says he got out off his patrol care and attempted to make contact with the individual but she was unresponsive.
The sergeant immidiately called HFD and transported the female to a nearby hospital.
According to officials, the hospital notified officer around 4:45 a.m. that the female has succumbed to her injuries and had died.
“We have received information that she had some outstanding warrants”, said Chief Victorian, “which could have been the reason she fled.”
Officials have not released any more information on the female driver and are working to notify her next of kin.
Vehicular crime units and internal affairs and will be the scene to conduct an investigation on the accident.
